Vanessa Moodley is one such person, but she goes a mile further, because firefighting is not her full-time career, she volunteers as a firefighter and a member of the Dive Rescue team. In 1989, I met a unique lady who was most impressive. She was Training Officer Vanessa Moodley who managed the fitness and recruiting of an entire metropolitan fire department. As the only female administrator, not only did she hold her own, but she was highly respected and held in high esteem by her fellow colleagues and firefighters.
What left me in awe was that Vanessa was participating in the World Fire and Emergency Games as well as coaching her fellow team members. She was selfless, supportive, and generous towards the visiting participants as well. Vanessa is a remarkable leader who is strong and persistent but gracious and compassionate.
